Good news! More and more flights from other countries coming to Playa del Carmen. Amid the reactivation of tourism in the Mexican Caribbean, Quintana Roo’s mayor, Carlos Joaquin, announced this week new air routes.
Starting from March, Cancun’s airport will connect with Miami and Phoenix, while the Cozumel island will starting receiving new routes from Houston.
American Airlines will soon travel once per week connecting Philadelphia and Cozumel. While other Frontier Airlines will begin Saturday flights between Denver and the Caribbean island tomorrow.
Southwest Airlines will begin daily flights in March between Cozumel and Houston. Check the flights here
Although the number of international tourists who came to Mexico last year slumped 46% to 24.3 million, the number of United States visitors to Quintana Roo increased in 2020.
Quintana Roo is currently yellow light high risk on both the federal and state stoplight maps. Hotels, restaurants, archaeological sites, and theme parks are currently operating at 60% capacity.
