Transportation- getting around playa.

Here in Playa Del Carmen, the good news is that you can get almost anywhere you need to by foot. If you are focused on health, this does make it all the more easy to get your daily dose of exercise. And when you need to move faster or cover greater distances at different times, it may become necessary to consider the other methods.  In order of the most practical, we’ll list your options here in Playa Del Carmen….

Taxis-You can find taxis everywhere and anywhere 24\7. There are taxi stations all over Playa del Carmen. It is always a good idea to ask how much it will be for a ride prior to getting in even if there are set rates. You can also talk to a few cab drivers if you are interested in trying to find out the best rate.
The Buses-The local buses run many routes within the central and outer parts of Playa. For 5 pesos you can get around. They run from 5 am to 11pm. If you need to cover large distances the ADO is a privately owned bus company that has a station here. It is very good, with AC, &
reasonably priced.
The Collectivo-  The collectivos are vans that run between Cancun and Tulum and everywhere in between.  So you can get off at just about anywhere you motion the driver to drop you off at. You can also catch one in town to get from one end of town to the other. They are usually air conditioned and are very cost effective. It can be a pretty full at times so be prepared to sit close. 40 pesos (Approximately $4.00 USD) from Playa del Carmen to Cancun one way 20 pesos (Approximately $2.00 USD) from Playa del Carmen to Tulum one way 5 pesos (Approximately 50 cents)between 38th Street and Juarez Avenue.
The collectivo’s run daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. You can find them on Calle 2 between 10th and 15th Avenue, around town, and on the freeway.
The Ferry- This is how you cross over to Cozumel Island. It runs every hour. It currently costs about 150 pesos. You can also rent a bicycle, scooter, car, or if you need something hauled, you can rent a tricycle. Yes, that’s right a Tricycle! The Tricycles are seen all over town, and though one can use them for a taxi service, they are usually used for a courier service such as hauling water and papers.
