This past weekend the third annual International Expo Tattoo in Playa del Carmen took place at Karen’s restaurant and All About Playa was there to meet the artist and take pictures of this unique event.
This event is relatively new in this city but the response was very positive. There were locals and tourists visiting the artists, some of them where brave enough to get a new piece right there and then!
We spoke to some of the artist about how these sorts of events contribute to the education and awareness regarding the arts of body modification. Not only tattoos but also piercings and implants are part of this culture once refrained to the underground, now they are pretty well accepted in this modern society.
Alright, tattoos are not for everyone but we can’t deny that everyone feels curious to some point about the fact that a permanent piece of art can stay with you for the rest of your life.
Playa del Carmen is known for it’s bohemian style, the people here tend to be very open minded. You will see tattoos everywhere, even the most professional business people often have a colorful Japanese or New School design visible. There is no doubt that we live in a different era and nowadays we can’t judge people by their personal choices.
