The director of Sustainable Tourism Expo, Gilda Sigie informed that the concept of sustainable tourism in Quintana Roo has had an important growth during the last months, proof of this are the suppliers focused in offering services attached to the environmental care, as the tourist companies interested in acquire them.

He explained that the hotel sector is currently one of the most involved in Sustainable Tourism, this knowing about the worldwide growth of tourists interested in holiday destinations where sustainable actions are implemented from the place of accommodation to tourism activities.

He explained that the integration of the state to Sustainable Tourism ranges from green suppliers in companies, as well as hotels, good environmental practices, to social-business responsibility.

Gilda Sigie explained that Sustainable Tourism is tourism that follows the principles of sustainability, minimizing the impact on the environment and local culture, while contributing to generate income, as well as jobs for the local population.

He announced that they will promote more events focused on promoting environmental care through Sustainable Tourism.

The Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres have shown interest in learning more about Sustainable Tourism, and in this way develop new work schemes towards their partners to meet the needs in terms of sustainability.
