The great experience of Mexican food

The state of Quintana Roo, in southeastern Mexico, is known for it’s rich culture and beautiful beaches. However, it is also home to a variety of delicious food that reflects the influence of the ancient Maya and Spanish colonizers.

One of the most popular typical foods in Quintana Roo is the cochinita pibil, a traditional Mayan dish that is prepared with pork marinated in achiote, onion, lemon and aromatic herbs. The meat is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in an earthen oven, called a “pibl”, where it is slowly cooked and acquires a unique smoky flavor.

Another popular dish is Tikin Xic, a traditional Mayan recipe for fish cooked in an achiote, onion, tomato and herb sauce. It is served with rice and corn tortillas. The name Tikin Xic means “beautiful fish”; in Mayan, and it is a delight for fish lovers.

The panucho is another traditional dish from Quintana Roo, it is a corn tortilla stuffed with beans, served with chicken, cochinita pibil, chicharrón, among other ingredients and is accompanied with sauce and cream.

Last but not least is the coconut ceviche, a coastal delicacy that combines fresh fish marinated in lime, cilantro, onion, and grated coconut. It is a fresh and light dish, perfect to enjoy on a hot day at the beach.

In summary, the original food of Quintana Roo is a mixture of Mayan and Spanish influences that is characterized by its smoky flavor and delicacy. Dishes such as cochinita pibil, Tikin Xic, panucho, and coconut ceviche are just a few examples of what can be enjoyed in this beautiful Mexican state.
