PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo — The Sacred Maya Crossing will be held on May 26 and 27; around 300 people distributed in 30 canoes will stage the ritual that the ancient Mayans did to pay tribute to the goddess Ixchel.
At a press conference, Leticia Aguerrebere, director of the cultural show, reported that at 5:30 am on Friday May 26, at the Xcaret Park facilities, the barter market will be held to emulate the Mayan trading style, and subsequently there will be a dance dedicated to the white owl, king vulture, red macaw and flamingo, birds of great importance to the Mayan culture.
The departure of the 300 canoeists will take place at dawn in front of two thousand people, whose access will be free if they arrive at 5:30 in the morning.
