Starting from April a new “Night route” will be available for residents of Playa del Carmen serving the most important neighborhoods and downtown. This proposal by the national chamber of commerce and tourism (CANACO and Servitour) was approved by the Transportation division of the government.
This new route will help an estimated of 450 people that work in the touristic area of the city since the cost of daily taxi service can influence the income of workers to the point of even considering a new job without the transportation limitations.
Six rides will be available in the beginning with a route towards Real Ibiza and Villas del Sol, the timetable will be from midnight to 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on weekends. The starting point is set to be Plaza las Perlas on Constituyentes avenue between the 20th and 25th streets. Costs are yet to be established.
Director of transportation, Alejandro Salgado also mentioned that a permanent checkpoint will be set in order to adjust irregular operations that have become more and more common among public and private drivers, fines will be also implemented.
