Perhaps the most-well known of all the sports bars in Playa de Carmen, Tequila Barrel is located along 5th Ave and just a little to one side of busy 12th Street (the nightclub strip). This location is indeed part of the reason for the bars popularity but more so the familiarity of home that it offers. With live sports betting available, excellently English spoken staff a large projection screen, open-aired and an exciting atmosphere right in the heart of downtown Playa, its reputation is well-earned. Not only a fantastic place to watch your favourite game but a bustling venue to spend your time in for almost any occasion.
Legends –
Legends is perhaps the most well manicured and modern of sports bars in Playa del Carmen. Excellent sporting decor, automated doors and fully air-conditioned, it is also has an outdoor seating and pool table area. The service is great and makes an ideal place for friends to gather to escape the humidity and enjoy their favourite sports in comfort. Good food with nice portions located on 16th Ave, between 10th and 15th, it is only a small distance from the hustle and bustle of the tourist strip 5th Ave and an excellent option for a more relaxed and less jammed space during the big sporting events throughout the year so as not have to be left with several of your friends standing with nowhere to sit. A definite favourite of many of the year rounds residents.
The go-to haunt for Canadians. PG’s is the choice destination for a very large number of both full-time and part-time Canadian residents and tourists in Playa del Carmen. Open aired with an extremely friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere, PG’s is located on 1st Ave and 26th Street, only a block from the beach. A popular stop for breakfast, lunch and dinner, PG’s offers daily drink specials, great food (ask for the ‘hot kisses’, an original and not-to-be-missed culinary creation) at very reasonable prices and free pool to their customers. With live music every Friday and host to fundraising events such as their ever-popular comedy nights. PG’s also lays claim to being the only sports bar in Playa with Star Choice television, broadcasting Canadian sporting events and television from open til close and is the only place to be during the Canadian Grey Cup.
