Tonight El Cine Club will be screening the movie No Distance Left to Run, directed by Dyan Southern. The 2010 documentary film tells the story of English band Blur; their formation and rise to fame, the group’s break up and subsequent reunion.
For those of you unfamiliar with El Cine Club, they have been operating since November 2011 in various locations in Quintana Roo and Yucatán. Their regular headquarters is now in Playa’s Parque La Ceiba, a space managed by Flora Fauna y Cultura de México A.C. This beautifully landscaped park, which takes up one square block, is like a miniature jungle environment. It’s got walking trails, a small outdoor cafeteria, a children’s play area, and a space for their outdoor cinema, which consists of a large screen with speaker system.
As written on their Facebook profile, El Cine Club “seeks to generate bonds of union between society and through the projection of films and documentaries of art, environmental and other genres relevant to the community, encourage a recreation that also transmits message, learning, reflection and action.”
Projections are held on a regular basis on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. Within Parque La Ceiba, they also have some special functions other days of the week. Tonight’s screening has a cost of $40 pesos and they have snacks and drinks available beforehand, but make sure to arrive early so you can get a seat as space is limited.
