| Come and enjoy the Mexican gem |
You may have heard the news? The last month in April 2012, the younger of the 2 Obama’s daughters, Melia, came down to Mexico. She visited with her classmates the wonderful region of Oaxaca, in the southern Mexico.
She discovered the colonial city of Oaxaca, the amazing ruins of Monte Alban. This happened in a total serenity and happiness. You get it wrong if you reduce Mexico´s reputation to the drug cartel related violence. Mexico is much more than that. Mexico is first a country with many centuries of history. Not only 400 years, but thousands and thousands of years of history and of culture have built Mexico. If you come down here, you may discover and understand the values and the code of honor of these people. You will have a quick look at the numerous traditions and protocols of the country. You may be able to understand, depending, of course, on the time spent and on the contact you have with the local inhabitants, the link between the current cultural situation and the past history.
And it is rather sad, when you hear that people are afraid to visit this gem because of the quote unquote violence. Of course, nobody is denying violence exists but only in certain places. Never, at least for the near future, we will recommend you to go on vacations in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. It is even totally not advised at all. However, besides the dangerous states, it is possible to visit Mexico very safely: Oaxaca, Chiapas, Quintana-Roo, Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, the state of Mexico, Baja California, Jalisco etc…
Don’t be afraid to come down here to discover the Jewels of Mexico, Melia did it, you can do it as well. The only and unique rule you have to follow to be a good traveler is always respecting the country in its whole (inhabitants, culture, traditions etc.). With respect, you can go to any place.
