Carlos Slim Helu said Tuesday he is donating $110 million to recovery efforts after two earthquakes devastated parts of Mexico City and several states. In a press conference in Mexico City to announce the results of a four-week fundraising drive, Mexico’s richest person said that over 217,000 people contributed $21.1 million, amount which the Carlos Slim Foundation and the Telmex Foundation will match on a five-to-one basis bringing the total to about $130 million.
The reconstruction of Mexico City is expected to expand the real-estate boom that the urban giant has been going through. In April, months before the quake, ADI forecast investment in the city’s real estate sector would double from $11 billion in 2017 to $22 billion in 2018.
