The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival Starts Today

From today until Sunday December 1, the atmosphere will be full of music thanks to the “Riviera Maya Jazz Festival”, which over the years has positioned itself as one of the 10 best festivals of this type around the world.

In this edition, the perfect scenario will be once again at Mamita’s Beach Club for all attendees, who can enjoy the best jazz concerts for free.

According to Darío Flota Ocampo, director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (Cptq) it is expected the arrival of around 50 thousand followers of the festival.

“This is an effort that aims to promote tourism and put the name of the Riviera Maya on high.

“We hope that the event contributes to improve occupancy these days. They are months of much activity in events: the ‘Festival of life and death tradition’ in Xcaret, the PGA golf tournament in Playa Cobá, the ‘Riviera Maya Jazz Festival’ (in Playa del Carmen) and immediately the ‘International Film Festival’ in Tulum ”.

Every day there will be three concerts. For this edition, there will be national personalities, as well as groups from Brazil, England, Cuba and the United States.

For today, there will be Mr. Mandril, which merges lounge and electronics; the singer Magos Herrera, who has won the admiration of her audience thanks to her voice; and the famous Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés, considered one of the four best jazz players in the world.

On Saturday, the Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Marroquín will open the microphones, who stands out for soul and blues songs; there will also be the trombista and trompetista Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue; in addition to the Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias, who likes to fuse the genres of jazz and bossa nova.

To close the festival, on Sunday, December 1, the New York Voices group will be presented, mixing jazz and funk; PBug will also have a presentation; and the “cherry cake” will be in charge of the English group UB40, which has a touch of pop reggae.

Darío Flota commented that, over time, the “Riviera Maya Jazz Festival” is internationally recognized for its technical and musical quality.
