Tres Rios – Eco Park.

Just 6 miles north of Playa Del Carmen is another unique natural wonder of the Riviera Maya.  It is the Tres Rios  (Three Rivers) Ecological Park.  Also said to be “where the river meets the sea.” It is where culture, nature, and experience merge in an award-winning eco-sensitive facility that provides a retreat unlike any other.

According to the Tres Rios mission for sustainable development, “Tres Rios is composed of 326 acres of pristine tropical rainforests intersected by three winding freshwater rivers, decorated by ten fascinating cenotes (cave-like sinkholes with natural wells). It is home to 120 species of plants and 90 species of animals.  It is the only nature park in the Yucatan Peninsula that includes three distinct ecosystems: jungle, mangrove forest, and coastal dunes.

As one of the Riviera Maya’s privately owned natural treasures, Tres Ríos is dedicated to a strict set of environmental regulations that govern any development on the property.”In 2006 SEMARNAT recognized Tres Ríos as a “regional and national model for sustainable tourism development.” The resort was one of only three national tourism projects to receive the unique environmental seal of approval by the highest Mexican environmental authority. This makes the Tres Rios and excellent choice for the experienceing Riviera Maya in its fullness.
