A mobile application available for Android and IOS platforms to check sargassum on the beaches of Quintana Roo, is the one that the Sargasso Monitoring Network in Cancun is preparing for next October.
According to the hydrobiologist and network coordinator, Esteban Amaro Mauricio, this mobile application has an advance of 80 percent, will be financed by members of the same network and will have satellite information and photographs of the users.
“We already have an advance of 80 percent, with the only thing we are having a problem in linking the satellite part, the pixels of the images, with the automatic prediction system, but we are already in the refining part,” he said. Amaro Mauricio
He added that the download of the App will have no cost and in it you can find the beach closest to your destination, how is the seaweed quantity in that area at the moment and in the next 72 hours.
“The application is going to be free. It is an application where you are looking for the destination where you are going to stay and it tells you how are those days of sargassum, and we hope to have the ability to tell you how it will be in the next 72 hours, ”he said.
Currently, the Sargasso Monitoring Network of Cancun already has a prevention traffic light that is updated daily by the satellite information to which they have access and which monitors the beaches that go from Holbox to Tulum.
To be able to finance it, the members of the Sargasso Monitoring Network are in talks with some tour operators who will propose to be promoted in the App.
In the last week, the sargassum on the coast of the state of Quintana Roo has decreased considerably due to weather conditions, which have favored that throughout this week, the main beaches of the entity look clean.
