Few beverages in the world are as culturally expressive as mezcal. In the Mexican state of Oaxaca — an arid, mountainous landscape in the southern part of the country — farmers have distilled it for centuries, long before there even was a Mexico. It wasn’t until 1994 that the term was internationally recognized as an agave distillate originating from this region.
