Donald Trump´s project in Cozumel

According to several sources there has been on-going developments regarding Donald Trump´s said investment in buildig a hotel in Cozumel. Some reports said U.S. businessman Donald Trump has invested $65 million to build two hotels in Cozumel on the North side of the island. This project is expected to start in 2012 and stretch over the next four years. His plan will add a thousand hotel rooms, a golf course and a marina in the first stage, as expressed by Aurelio Joaquin Gonzalez, Mayor of Cozumel.

These hotel project will join the hotel Bahía Turquesa, in which Hilton will invest 5-million dollars, to make available 200 more hotels rooms, also in the North part of the island.   Regarding the growth of the tourism industry specifically, for 2012 it is expected that Cozumel will reach 5 million visitors, however, it is the number one destination in the reception of cruise ships in the country, showing a flow of three million visitors, while 600,000 arrive through local shipping services or via regional flights. In part, it is as a result of the new Interjet flights linking Mexico City and Cozumel.

Mayor Joaquín also asserted that Cozumel continues to be the number one destination for cruise ship traffic in Mexico and the Caribbean. The mayor also highlighted an investment of 30-million pesos for the construction of the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, a project that will provide more and better tourist facilities in Cozumel.
