The Beaches of Cancun and Riviera Maya Were Awarded with this Huge Honor

The executive director of the Foundation for Environmental Education in Mexico and national coordinator of Blue Flag, Arturo Diaz Rios said that by counting 10 beaches in Cancun currently with the Blue Flag international emblem becomes a more attractive tourist destination for Europeans this summer, which is why it could increase the arrival of this market.

He indicated that Cancún currently ranks second nationally in terms of Blue Flag badges, only below Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur, which is very relevant when considering all the beaches in Mexico.

Díaz Ríos pointed out that tourism from the old continent is the best known of these Blue Flag flags and their meaning, this being in France where this recognition originated in the 80s, however, nowadays Americans are also beginning to recognize the quality of beaches with this distinctive.

The Blue Flag national coordinator recalled that in order to receive this certification, the beaches must approve 33 criteria in four categories, including water quality, having services, safety, adequate environmental management and even environmental education activities.

In the last week of August, the new 2020-2021 call will be launched so that the municipal authorities can register new beaches in Cancun and add more Blue Flag flags.

Arturo Díaz pointed out that the inspection work on the beaches registered in the Blue Flag call takes approximately one year and if all the requirements are fulfilled, recognition is given.
