Small Hotels promote LGBT tourism

Omar Ortiz - LGBT tourism Playa del Carmen

Small Hotels in Playa del Carmen have decided to promote LGBT tourism as part of their strategy to reactivate the economy. After months of closure, they are opting for creating inclusive services for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Canal 10 interviewed the President of the Committee of Small Hotels and Tourism in Playa del Carmen, Omar Ortiz. The representative argued that new segments of the market are arising, thanks to new legislation. Some of them are LGB families (families with two fathers or two mothers plus children) and LGBT couples. These families can spend significant amounts of money on the local economy. As a consequence, this segment has become a cornerstone of the marketing strategy of many hotels.
