Eight new hotels to break ground in Quintana Roo this year

During the recent XV National Tourism Forum, Quintana Roo Tourism Secretary Marisol Vanegas Perez revealed that investors are planning to start eight hotel projects during the second half of 2017.

According to Reportur.com, the eight hotel projects in Mexico’s Quintana Roo will consist of more than 12,000 hotel rooms and will be located in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, Bacalar and Mahahual.

In Cancun, the project is expected to add 2,400 rooms in the first stage and another 6,000 during the second stage. As for the hotels planned for the Riviera Maya, more than 1,000 rooms will be added in 2017 on the island of Isla Mujeres.

The investors already own the land needed for the hotel development, and they are also working with both national and foreign capital to make the construction possible.

“Today in the world and everything is globalized and it is very difficult to track the origin of an investment,” Vanegas Perez said in a statement.

While some of the projects consist of hotels adding more than 6,000 rooms, the construction in the southern regions and on the island of Holbox are going to be much smaller and focus on a more exclusive feel. The smaller resorts will be focused on a more high-end consumer.
