We’ve hand-picked a few of the many experiences you can enjoy on holidays in Playa del Carmen on holidays.
Stroll Along The Glamorous Quinta Avenida
La Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue) is the beating heart of Playa del Carmen. It’s a pedestrian street that runs parallel and very close to the beach, where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, spas, shops, cafes, boutiques, jewelers, ice-cream parlors, art galleries, and shops selling souvenirs and crafts to suit all tastes and budgets. Years ago it was just a transit point for those on route to Cozumel, but today it’s become a “must” for visitors to the Mexican Caribbean.
Discover A Subterranean World In Río Secreto
Río Secreto is an underground nature reserve with 15km of semi-flooded caverns that can be covered on a 3.5-hour tour. It’s a life-changing journey through a crystal museum, where the history of our planet is written all over geological formations including stalactites, stalagmites and other amazing rock formations that have been silent witnesses to the evolution of this underground universe. It can be found just 8km south of Playa del Carmen.
Dive Into The Fun In Xcaret
Xcaret is an impressive eco theme park where you can see archaeological remains from the Mayan civilization, a henequen hacienda, a cemetery, and other scenes from colonial Mexico. You can also find Mexico’s first butterfly, visit an aviary, and it’s one of the few remaining places in the world where you can witness coral reef in its natural habitat. It is also home to cenotes, underground rivers, lagoons and beautiful beaches. The park offers incredible shows at night and is located 9km south of Playa del Carmen.
Explore The Jungle In Xplor
The Xplor adventure park is a must for all thrill seekers. Just five minutes from Playa del Carmen, the natural theme park includes zip lines that cross the jungle, and rapids and underground rivers waiting to be explored. The “Fuego” night tour is highly recommended for the more adventurous as it offers the chance to admire the jungle and caves in a different light as you explore the area with a magic torch.
Put Your Senses To The Test At The 3d Museum Of Wonders
This magnificent masterpiece of visual illusion is one of the largest interactive museums in the world and was created by the artist Kurt Wenner. It’s a visual feast for the eyes that invite you to engage with the dimensions of space, and take incredibly original photos in some of the paintings or on the floors and walls.
So, this is the plan, one or two days of complete indulgence at your favorite resort and then leave your comfortable sun lounger and say “Hola!” to some adventures in Playa del Carmen.
