The Tren Maya is one of the most important projects in the Yucatan Peninsula. This mega project is designed to improve the lifestyle of the Mexican southeast. It is expected that this project will give even more strength to the tourism sector in the area and more specifically in the state of Quintana Roo.
Archaeological Discoveries
Due to the richness of Mexico’s historical and archaeological heritage, extreme care has been taken when starting construction. This care has led to important archaeological discoveries. One of the most important discoveries has been the Sacbe (white road in Mayan) of Cacalchen. A 33 KM road was discovered, the second-longest in the Maya area. Among the archaeological monuments found were bone material, flint knives, cists, potsherds, spear points, metals, and complete ceramic pieces. To date, a total of 16,572 monuments have been found along the first four sections of the train.

Improved connectivity between Cancun and Merida
The travel time between Cancun and Merida will be reduced by 61 Km. The travel time between Cancun and the stations in the State of Yucatan can be reduced by more than an hour for routes originating in Cancun and almost 40 minutes for routes with destinations in this same locality.
More Real Estate Investment
Only 10 months after the start of construction, the Tren Maya has already attracted real estate investments of more than 2.3 billion pesos. It is expected that more than 2,500 homes will be built in the Yucatan peninsula alone and this figure, according to experts, will increase as the work progresses.
